NC Representative Larry Womble Updates

Posted by Brooke  •  Dec 12, 2011 @ 9:00 AM

userThis web page has been developed in an effort to keep the community apprised regarding the medical condition of NC Rep. Larry Womble. On Friday, December 2, 2011 at approximately 11:00p.m., Representative Womble was involved in a fatal head on collision that claimed the life of David Carmichael, who was driving the other vehicle.
The family of Representative Larry Womble has, since the morning after the accident, asked the public to pray for the Carmichael family and to pray for Representative Womble’s recovery.

In an effort to streamline the process of notifying the public regarding Representative Womble’s progress and as a way to allow the public to send well wishes to Representative Womble, this site will be updated daily and those who wish to send well wishes may do so at the bottom of this page.

Current Condition and Updates

As Representative Womble's condition changes, updates will be made to this site.  If there are no major changes, the post will indicate that there are “no changes and his condition remains the same as previously reported”.  Due to the severity of Representative Womble’s injuries, he will have to undergo multiple surgeries.  The dates/times for each procedure may change, therefore updates will be posted on this site as information from medical professionals working on behalf of Rep. Womble is made available.

Again, thank you for stopping by to check on Representative Womble and please continue to check here for updates.

*NC Representative Larry Womble serves in the NC General Assembly, representing Winston Salem, Forsyth County District 71

Monday, December 26 - At 6:00 PM there will be a special tribute to Rep. Larry Womble at Winston-Salem Urban League. Each year Representative Womble participates in the week long celebration. Kwanzaa is traditionally celebrated from December 26 through January 1, with each day focused on Nguzo Saba, or the seven principles. Derived from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanza" which means "first fruits", Kwanzaa is rooted in the first harvest celebrations practiced in various cultures in Africa. Kwanzaa seeks to enforce a connectedness to African cultural identity, provide a focal point for the gathering of African peoples, and to reflect upon the Nguzo Saba, or the seven principles, that have sustained Africans.

Umoja (OO-MO-JAH) Unity stresses the importance of togetherness for the family and the community.  It is only fitting that on the day the community celebrates Unity, it also honors NC Representative Larry Womble.

On behalf of NC Representative Larry Womble, the family would like to thank those who will participate in Kwanzaa and encourages everyone to identify and participate in a Kwanzaa celebration in your community.

Sunday, December 25 - Representative Womble’s condition remains as previously reported. On behalf of NC Representative Larry Womble and the entire Womble family, here’s wishing everyone Season’s Greetings and blessings for the coming New Year.

Friday, December 23 - Representative Womble’s condition is listed as critical today.  His temperature was running high, which is one of the things that has resulted in this status change.  However, his vitals remain stable and he continues to respond to stimuli, voices and commands. We will continue to keep the public updated regarding his progress. The family wants to remind everyone to be safe during the holidays.

Thursday, December 22 - Representative Womble continues to make progress.  Everything remains as previously reported. The medical professionals and his family have noticed that he is managing to muster up that smile that everyone has grown accustomed to over the years. He is now responding to certain commands. The family asks for your continued prayers and would like to remind the public that as the holidays are upon us, do not forget to remember a family in need.

Wednesday, December 21 - We are pleased to report that NC Representative Womble has been changed from critical to serious condition. As of 3:45PM today Representative Womble was alert and responsive.   While he cannot yet speak, his condition has improved. The family wants to thank the public for your continued prayers, support and well wishes.

Dear Family, Ann and I are the telephone center operators at the General Assembly during session. We answer all the calls going to our representatives. We have not personally met Rep. Womble but we love all our General Assembly family very much. We want to let you know that we are very sad about your Dad's accident and that we are praying that God will bring him through this. You know I don't think God is through letting your Dad help the people of his counties or all of North Carolina. He has done much good in the General Assembly. I know you are and should be very proud of his accomplishments. May God bless all your family and Rep. Womble at this critical time of need. Love in Christ, Diane Gray and Ann Deese

Rep. Womble is my next door neighbor at the Legislature. I am Rep. Luebke's Legislative Assistant. I was so stunned to hear of Rep. Womble's dreadful accident and hope and pray that he is going to recover from his injuries. I have known him now for eleven years and he has always been so friendly and nice to me and everyone else at the General Assembly. He always greets me with: "Good Morning, Mrs. Harris." Just remember, that time can heal and I certainly hope that is the case with him. Best wishes, Joyce Harris

Dear Larry - You may not remember me, but we served together in the NC House (2001-02). I just wanted you and your family to know that we have been keeping you (and the Carmichael Family) in prayer. May GOD bless you with healing and an ability to also, in turn, bless the family of the individual who died in the accident. And may you all, despite all circumstances, enjoy a blessed Christmas season. - Former Representative Mark Crawford (NC House of Representatives [2001-02] )

Representative Womble, These are the words of songwriters Wayne Kirkpatrick and Michael Smith: "All is well, all is well; lift up your voice and sing. Born is now Emmanuel, born is our Lord and Savior. Sing Alleluia, sing Alleluia, all is well." All is well because of Christ. We are not alone in our pain. God is beside us and promises never to leave. He promises that His grace will be sufficient. He promises to supply all our needs. And, He promises us the amazing gift of eternal life. God's peace pillows the head and His promises calm the heart. God is, and all is well. Love and prayers, Delta Prince
